i'm in my virtual school's gifted program...would it be rude to ask how i got in in the first place? I mean, it seems like i shouldn't be in it, since i don't make any of the expectations for it (except for being an A student)

  1. Ask plenty of questions when you're in school.  Being curious should be encouraged by your teachers. That's the purpose of education!

  2. Not at all. The teacher can be a mentor too. What you want to know shouldn't be difficult for the teacher to explain and it seems to be important to you.

  3. Go for it, but don't be surprised if they won't tell you. A lot of times, teachers in gifted programs don;t like to share that info as it can separate you from your peers. Also, gifted students tend to be too competitive as it is, giving them numbers and rankings is just bad news.

PS->: If they don't tell you, ask your parents. They were told.

  4. No, it wouldn't be rude of you to ask this question.

I don't understand why you want to ask this question, however.  It may be that you don't have confidence in your abilities.

I think you shouldn't worry about why the let you in.  Just do the work.  If you do well, your confidence will grow and be reinforced.

If you are having trouble, then you can discuss getting help with your teacher or possibly changing to some other area of studies in your gifted program that you find piques your interest.

My guess is that your school recognizes that gifted people can have a wide diversity of interests and would be very willing to help you find an interest or set of interests that will keep you turned on to their program.

  5. I would word it differently. Try "What are the qualifications for being in this program?"

  6. to be or not to be that is the question

  7. Go right ahead. Just be very respectful when you ask.

    God bless you richly

  8. Absolutly not. you have a right to know what they saw in you to place you in the program. you will always be your toughest critic, so your teacher probably sees something in your potential that you cannot see yourself.

    Good Luck with your program.

  9. It's not rude to ask your teacher about your ability to participate in any school program.

It may be more helpful to question why you don't feel worthy of being part of something that acknowledges your success.

often when adults get promoted in the work place based on their abilities they feel what is called Impostor Syndrome.

You have clearly earned this recognition but feel you really shouldn't have it.

    Enjoy your success !!
