My friend and I are planning on going on a 3 hour train trip alone this Sunday, and we're probably going to be taking the Amtrak.

Will it be alright? Sorry, I'm being a bit paranoid, since this is my first time ever traveling just with a friend like this. Haha.

Anyway, I've just turned 15, and my friend's 14.

We'll probably go in the morning, and take the train again at night.. Probably at around 5 or 6 in the evening.

Please clear up my mind and tell me we won't be kidnapped. xD

  1. It should be plenty safe! Make sure your parents know where you are going to be and how late your staying and what not. Go straight to the train (in the evening) and then go straight home from there and there should be no problems. Also, keep a cell phone on person and turned on in case something should happen to get you delayed or something similar  so you can inform your parents.

I'm paranoid when it comes to things like this as well (I'm also 15), but I assure you that things will run smoothly just take care with who you associate with on your trip; I'm sure you don't need to be told not to talk to strangers. ^_^

    Have fun!

  2. there is no reason to be paranoid. amtrak is ALOT safer than a greyhound bus for example.

Amtrak has increased security presence onboard the trains and in the stations.

They have plain clothed security officers on most of the long distance routes- they wear a black or navy blue t shirt that says "Amtrak security officer" on the back. They also wear a badge on a black string around their neck. If you do have a problem i.e if someone harasses or bothers you do not be afraid to ask one of them or a train conductor for help- that is what they are there for.

In the stations there are uniformed police officers patrolling around either on foot, bicycle or in a patrol car. Most of the problems occuring at the stations are hobos panhandling and/or drinking. If you do see this going on please be sure to tell a ticket agent or conductor.

  3. yea dude do it that would be cool. just watch out for hobos trying to grab you! lol hahaha just kidding.

  4. be careful because it could happen im 5years older than you and i was kidnapped walking alone at eleven at night and i hadn't been worried because when i was your age i did things like you are planning to do and now i get a little bit more cautious of what i do and tell younger girls they can do please if you go ahead and go please please be careful.

  5. You are safe on a train. Every train has a guard, i.e. conductor in the US, who is responsible for the safety of passengers. Most of the cars these days are open saloons, so the guard can see everyone in the saloon in one glance.

As with any journey make sure your parents know what time you intend to travel and when you intend to return. As Kitten says, carry a mobile phone as it's possible the train could be delayed, if you haven't got one and it's a serious delay you should ask the guard to contact your parents to let them know you'll be late back.

Have a good journey, relax and enjoy the trip. You are not going to get kidnapped or anything.

  6. you're pretty safe on a train, just don't talk to strangers and don't make yourself look paranoid on there people won't try anything stupid on a train or airplane, especially on a plane though :P but anyway yeah you're safe you scream in something like a train people will look so doubt anybody will try anything
