  1. Where did you get it? Is it from Pennsylvania? If it is native to your area I would think it would be ok to release. If not, then don't release, give to a rescue organization.

Take it to a natural area and then release it.  Call a local park and ask about where there is natural habitate and where it can find others (to mate).

It should be fine to release. I work at a nature center and we release animals from time to time after they have been kept in captivity.

  2. I doubt it.  If it has spent very long as a pet it is dependent on humans for food and protection.  It would have no natural fear of predators.

  3. yes... aquatic creatures can survive well no matter what kind of environment they are left in. set it free

  4. No, NEVER release non-native species into the wild...this is illegal and has an adverse affect on the ecosystem.  If you cannot keep this turtle, bring it to your local animal shelter or a local turtle rescue.  This was taken from a website I found:

Pet Red-eared Sliders should not be released into a wild habitat. These pets could carry organisms that the wild populations are not immune to and the pet may not have the proper immune system that is required to live in a wild habitat. Disease could easily be spread by this practice. Pet turtles fed commercial diets also may not recognize natural foods and may associate humans with food which could endanger the turtle. Pet owners should contact a rescue organization if they no longer want their turtle.[1]
