I heard that they could be in danger of being kidnapped for trafficking.

  1. I have lived and worked in Honduras and I don't believe there is any factual basis for a rumor such as that. The children should be closely supervised by an adult at all times especially if they don't speak Spanish. The people of Honduras are family oriented and love children. Some people may be curious, depending on where you travel in the country but they should be in no more danger of being kidnapped than any other child. If it were me, I would make sure that each of the children  carried a paper with YOUR contact information and instuctions for what to do and who to notify in both Spanish and  English in the event any of you become separated. It would also be good idea to put that paper into a zipIock sandwich bag to protect it should the child get wet or dirty. I would also give each of the kids a police whistle on a lanyard or shoestring to wear around their neck at all times in the event that they become lost or separated from the group.

You should be able to find inexpensive whistles and lanyards at any WalMart or sporting goods store near you. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions or concerns.

***The whistle is a vastly underrated signaling device. Certainly, SAR flying overhead isn't going to hear it, but it may be heard by passersby or by ground search teams. A whistle is far superior to shouting, a virtually useless effort. The whistle will carry for 1/2 to 2 miles or even more in the wilderness where your voice may only carry for a few hundred yards, at best, but often much less, depending upon the circumstances. You will also be able to signal for much longer periods of time, whereas your vocal cords would have given out long before. The shrill and unmistakable blast of a whistle, repeated three times, the universal signal for help, will definitely attract attention if anyone is within earshot.***

  2. Of course!!!! I live in Honduras!!!!

    there is no danger!!!

Honduras is a great place for trips!!!

    VIVA HONDURAS!!!

  3. WIth a little common sense, you should be fine. The cities are mostly safe if you keep in groups and have a local guide to keep you out of the dangerous parts of town (like all cities around the world have).
