Would it be safe to use semi or demi permanent hair dye over permanent?

I died my hair a brownish red in late almost a month ago I used permanent and it turned out dark which was ok. Would it be ok if I dyed it again but with a semi or demi color? I like to change my hair color often and I want to stop killing my hair so much with permanent color. does demi or semi not damage as much? and what is the difference with the amount that washes out? I am assuming that demi lasts longer. Any thing that I need to know will be appreciated!

Also I only used color pulse a couple times when I first started dying my hair, and they were discontinued, so I started using permanent.

yes i did the same thing my hair was a brownish reddish and i used Manic Panic and left it in overnight and my hair came out fine i just needed a really strong conditioner
