Question:

Would it be smart for me to test out of College Algebra?

I'm a junior as of now. I've started taking college classes - one of them being College Algebra. My counselor told me I could probably test out of it, and after today, I'm pretty sure I can. I've taken Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry in high school. Math is my best subject. I get around 97% in my math classes. Just wondering if anyone thinks I can test out. I've only started the class today, so I'm not totally sure I can. Oh! and only answer this if you've taken College Algebra or you somehow know what you're talking about, OK?

  1. just take the placement test

if you make it, then good job

if you don't, then no harm done

but just make sure that you know enough of the material to be able to survive in a higher class

    although algebra is pretty easy

  2. Well, I can't speak specifically for college algebra, but I do think it's useful to test out of anything you can. You get credits without having to spend the time or money to take the class, and as far as I know, nothing negative happens if you try to test out and fail to do so. I entered college having tested out of about a term's worth of credits, which was definitely worth it to me.

  3. Always test out when it's an option.  Not sure why you're reluctant to try..can't hurt & if you pass you'll save all that time & $.  Anytime testing-out is an option, do it.  I was able to skip about 3 courses for my economics BS by testing out..tried for 5 courses but only tested out on 3, good luck.

per your qs..all schools are different on $ of testing out, mine didn't cost anything
