Would it be stupid to play with a slightly fractured radius?

I fractured my radius and the doctor said I'd be out in a cast for 3 weeks and in a brace for one... but the athletic trainer said I could play as early as tomorrow because she could pad it for me. Now I don't plan to for the next few days, but would it be dumb? I play football- Inside Linebacker. The season is just starting and I really want to play.

  1. Inside linebacker is a high impact position, I'd say you need to wait the three weeks ane then you could probably brace the h**l out of it for you, but be careful, if you break it again it will probably never be as strong.

  2. You must be a good players and valuable to your team if your coach wants you to play too soon.

Sometimes trainers push people too hard, and they don't have the player's interests at heart.  They will sacrifice your health to have a strong team.

If you use your arm when it is injured it may not heal properly and you might set yourself up for early osteoarthritis later in life.

You should follow your doctor's recommendations.

  3. A fracture is a break, whether it goes totally through the bone or not.  A minimal impact or fall could convert that from a minor break to a very serious one.  Your coach is not correct nor is he thinking of your well-fare; and in fact in a bad outcome could be held liable.  You need to discuss with your orthopedist or sports med doc-they will have YOUR interests are heart; not the teams. I know you want to play; but a serious injury could affect you for life; long after those field lights go dim.  To be the best you can be for the team as well, you should be healed.
