  1. Yes, trade unions got us paid holidays, sick leave, maternity leave, protect us from hard employers, got us higher wages, paid public holidays, and if you live in Australia, paid rostered days off, (35 or 38hr week) and long service leave after 15 yrs. (3 monthe paid leave if you stick with the one company) And you can now take it pro rata after 10 yrs. We'd be still in the dark ages if the workers didn't unite to form unions.


  2. There are still plenty of people who work 10, 12, 24 and 48 hour shifts.  

    I used to work a 10 hour shift.  It was nice because I worked 8 days in a row and had 6 days off. Basically I worked a week and took a week off.
