I am 19 and have failed my driving test for more than 5 times. I have been taught by my parents. I can definately maneuver a car properly, but I think the biggest problem I have or nerves. I'm not very cofident behind the wheel and I think that is why I have not passed the test. Do I just need more time behind the wheel or should I consider getting professional lessons? Also, it is ver expensive and I can only afford 3 hours of in- car lessons.

  1. It sounds like you do need professional one on one help before you go any further...

  2. You should look into it because your parents may not be very good drivers??   I passed the test on my 3rd time and it was because of lack of confidence and nerves. I doubted myself because I was seeking approval. It might not have helped that I went with my dad and had men testors. The first guy was tough and intimidating. My dad even said so. The second guy was so nice though. My mom went with me on the 3rd time and I had a female tester. I felt more at ease. Could that be a possibility??

  3. If you take a few lessons from a Professional Driving Instructor, you will become more aware of the Rules of the Road and learn proper methods of scanning, following, making turns and general safe habits.

Once you know how to do something properly, then you can develop those skills and more confidence.

This will result in you having more confidence about your driving skills too.

Parents and friends mean well, but there are many things which those people are not aware of.

A good Driving Instructor can observe what you are doing, instruct you so that you improve, and  make you aware of your weaker areas.

You will be driving for many years after you get your licence, so it's best to learn properly from a Professional!

  4. you have failed the test more than 5 times and the test costs around £56 each time. So you've spent over £200 already and got nothing for it. For this you could have got around 10+hrs driving lessons. You do the math and you decide which would have been the better investment for the £200+.

Parents are great at supervising practice but often have out of date knowledge of current driving techniques and very often pass on bad habits which can let you down on the test.

The test is not difficult but is very easy to fail.

Look at the faults you have received from your previous test reports and see if there is a pattern; get professional lessons, he/she will easily spot the pattern and the cause. Look here for guidance on the faults you have currently received:
