Would it be worth it to sign up for backstage.com?

I am 20 yrs old and I have never actually acted before, but I've always been interested and really wanna try it out. I don't live in a big city like New York or L.A. I am 45 minutes from Boston, but I don't know if there are any acting opportunities there. Basically if I don't have much experience and don't live in L.A is backstage worth signing up for? Would I even get any auditions??

  1. Go for it.

  2. first of all backstage is not a scam.  it is a professional trade, its like a newspaper listing all auditions big and small, and all the professional directors and actors use it.  however it might not be worth it since you aren't in a big city.  they might still list auditions but there may not be as many.  if you want, give it a shot for a month and see since its not too expensive, just be sure to cancel it by the right date or they will automatically charge you for the next month.  by the way, there is a TON of theater opportunities in Boston.  try the following free sites for your area:

    jacneed.com/auditions

    netheater411.com

    newenglandfilm.com/jobs.htm

    also check bostoncasting.com

also stagesource.org I believe has a subscription fee also but I heard its wonderful.  Research it.

and never underestimate craigslist! just make sure to do your homework and make sure the auditions are in secure areas.  look in your local paper's entertainment section.  google auditions- town name/state and see what comes up.  if you get a list of theaters go to their individual websites and see if they are advertising for any auditions.

if you have little experience, you must start small.  there are a lot more resources than you think.  you also should start taking some classes; if you can't find them locally they most definitely have them in boston. good luck.

  3. There are acting gigs everywhere even in small places. But i wouldn't recomend it. Its seems a little dangerous putting all ur info online. I would sugest getting an agent or something where your info is only going to people you want it to go to. What is there was some freak just praying for someone like you to come along? Well hope i helped!

  4. NO !!!

i tried it & it just scamed us out of our money !

    you get NO auditons

    you just loose money !

w/e you do dnt use that .

    good luck w/ acting :]

  5. no backstage is a scam anythign that makes you pay is a scam a real agency/agent is free and they only get paid 10- 20 % of what you make.

  6. I say go for it....maybe someone will see something they like and will give you a shot. You can always travel for the job, especially the right one.

I belong to a little acting company here in Baton Rouge, and I have been an extra in a few movies. It is fun.

However I do live in the state that is number three for movies being filmed here.

Try it....you will never know if you don't.

  7. JUST DO IT

  8. For information on audition opportunities in the Boston area, check out this site.  In your situation, it might be more valuable than Backstage.

    http://www.stagesource.org/

  9. How much does it cost? If its not too expensive then you might as well.... couldn't hurt to read about what's going on in the industry even if most of it doesn't apply to you.

If it is more than you would care to spend though, then maybe hold off until you live someplace with more opportunities...

  10. Eh, why not?
