I am thinking of upgrading to Vista, it was already installed on my laptop but I uninstalled and put XP on it. I like XP but I am thinking of a change. Should I upgrade to Vista. I have a Pentium Dual Core and 1 GB of RAM. Please advise.

  1. It definitely gets some getting used to.  I have XP on my desktop and vista on my laptop.  It's actually pretty easy to use.  I like some of the features it offers.  The side bar where you can display notes, news, time, etc.  They are partnered with google or something so a lot of it is google features.  And the layout I think they are trying to make it seem similar to the mac.  I've been using it for about a week and I find it pretty easy to use.

  2. If you are going to step it back up I would recommend getting another gb of ram. I think 1gb is the bare minimum for running that operating system, and I feel like after you use it for not too long you will see a decrease in performance. Also do you play a lot of games? You should find out if the video card in your laptop can handle Direct X 10 (I highly doubt it though with only 1 GB of ram.) But double check, because DX10 shows a high increase in graphics. You can always put it on and if you have an extra XP disk laying around you can re-uninstall it and put XP back on. If you need to save data i recommend a cheap external hard drive for maybe 30 bucks? I may be off a bit I havent had the chance to look into external drives too much.

By the way, I am on the same fence, parts of me want to upgrade to Vista, but first off i would have to download it illegally.

  3. no i would wait another year so they can get all the glitches out...otherwise you just be another guinee pig..

  4. Yes, because Vista is more reliable then XP at some points and since it was previously installed, everything will work so upgrading is my recommendation, Plus the visuals are nice!!!

  5. Well you can upgrade that is going to come down to your preference but i can tell you now 1 gig of ram simply wont cut it in vista. I suggest a min of 2 gigs vista takes considerably more memory than xp does. I can also tell you this i work in the IT field and i will never install vista on anything i own.

  6. Your laptop can handle Vista, but you may still need more memory. another 1 GB would be cool..

  7. I have Vista.. and personally I don't like it!  It's too complicated and even the people who made it say it's flawed.  I wish I had a Mac.

  8. No.

If you want to try something different I would switch to Linux, Suse or Ubuntu.
