Would it consume more energy for me to turn off the fan & turn the thermostat down a little?

I have my air on 70 degrees & also the ceiling fan on @ medium speed. For some reason, the fan is squeaky, & the sound hurts my ears (I have sensitive ears). & I was wondering, if I turn off the fan & put the A/C on 65, how much higher could that make my electricity bill be? Would it be a WHOLE lot or not much?

I live here in TX/US, & the outside temperature gets to 106 degrees during the day.

  1. First, lubricate your fan.  There are electric motor lubricants you can buy at automotive and home improvement stores, like ElectricALL which will solve that problem. It costs about $1.60 per hour in my area to run your AC at 78 degrees as compared to 1 1/2 cents per hour to run a ceiling fan on high speed for an hour.  It would affect my electric bill more than I am willing to pay to reduce the AC to 65 and I live with triple digits almost every day.
