With so many fires yearly would it make sense to build a large fire sprinkler throughout California's Forests with a Computerized Base. So whenever there's a fire the system get activated automatically and the service station can also monitor the fire along with their air team. I think that would make fire spreading less and fire fighting easier. With water from the sea if thats safe.

  1. The main reason that it will never happen is the cost. There are other reasons. People go to the forest to get away from technology, not to find it. Forests are in balance because of occasional fires, not despite them. Small fires remove the underbrush, maintaining the forest. It would make more sense to move houses out of land that would naturally be forest but that's never going to happen either. That is why it will be a continuous contest between fires destroying homes and the homes slipping downhill during mudslides.

  2. I agree that the problem is people trying to live where fires are a part of the natural cycle - not that we need to suppress each fire.  Also, dealing with the salt water point - no it would reek havoc with the inland ecosystems - salt would kill the plants that are not living in a salt water ecosystem.

  3. It would make sense but it is not going to happen.  Aside from the sprinkler thing we cannot control natural diasters we can find ways to protect and try to prevent it, but we cant control it. We just need not to let people go camping if the fire hazard is high

  4. Proper logging and forestry would make the forests much less susceptible towidespread fires.  Underbrush and overpopulation of smaller trees among the larger, established ones is nothing but fuel and a disaster waiting to happen.  Earlier generations used "controlled burns" to get rid of this underbrush threat without damaging large trees.  Later logging technology was used in the large forests for this purpose.  Environmentalists have long put an end to this practice, and with the buildup of underbrush and tree overpopulation , a controlled burn is definitely out of the question now.  Strategic logging needs to be reintroduced.Sprinkler system wouldnt put fires out, too costly, and would be a terrible eysore in otherwise beautiful forests.
