in a certain area of study, even though they had no formal education in it, and you had a college degree in exactly that field. Doesnt that just seem arrogant? How could they possibly believe they know more when you have 40 classes and they have maybe 1or 2.

  1. a bit yeah but there are some people like that who think they're experts in everything

  2. Yes, it could, but then, there are other ways of 'Knowing' about someone or some thing.  Even with 'qualifications', there are those who transcend the confines of these boundaries.

I read characters from palms (and I do not know How or quite What I do!), and I have been ''surprised'' at some of the things that I have come up with about a total stranger whose hand I'm looking at.

    Sash.

  3. Not at all. Formal education does not always translate into more knowledge. Experience may count for more than education. Then again, I never allow delusional people to upset me. If you are getting pissed off, that's your malfunction.

  4. No not at all - I know what I am and don't feel the need to prove it to anyone.  I have moved to a foreign country and left a highly paid skilled job.  As far as all my new friends are concerned I am a housewife - do I feel the need to tell them otherwise?   No I don't.

  5. Yes, I get this a lot...and at first I used to get very offended, but now I don't.  Why? Because there are many different kinds of educational experiences. Some of it comes from formal education. Some comes from experience.

So, I wouldn't necessarily call that person arrogant just because they don't have the degree. I feel it is important to keep an open mind and listen to the other person's POV anyway...even if you don't necessarily agree. You might still learn something from them. Who knows?

Example?  I have a degree in International Studies, emphasis in Latin American studies...but I've never lived there.  Yet, I know people who do not have a degree in the topic, or any degree at all, but who have lived and worked in Latin America for a number of years. While they lack the formal education I have on the history of the region, they have a rich vault of experiences that I don't. So I would not insult them by saying because you don't have a formal education in the topic, then you don't know what you are talking about.

I find that I have to be particularly careful when discussing Hispanic issues with Hispanics...especially Hispanic men.  Because I am not Hispanic and I am a woman, some of them see me as a "gringo", an outsider, despite having that degree in the topic..

So, I've learned you can't rush in like a bull in a china shop...you need to LISTEN first, then share your educational insights, but in a way where you do not make them feel bad or that gives the impression that you think you know more than they do about their own culture.  Not always easy, that I can tell you.

  6. well yeah it would,

  7. yes.

ive worked in this library for four years.

how can she think she knows how to run the place after 2 weeks being in her mid 70's and never even touched a computer before.

they say the older the wiser, but in this case, the old broad needs to take a step back and let the experienced staff take care of the major workk.

    gosh.

  8. Yeah

I just wanna freaking hit them over the head and shout.

Ah Yes, Im becoming violent again..

  9. No. I would take the opportunity to learn.  Life experiences have important influences on all of us.  However, I do remove myself from dynamics that require rescuing, or proping up anothers self esteem.  I let others do that.

  10. Yea .......they think they know everything...its sooo retarded! it realy pisses me off.

  11. It depends on their EXPERIENCE. Sometimes experience overrides  formal education.
