  1. We would be able to answer better if we knew which port.  However, go to CruiseCritic.com, click on "Boards", then on "East Coast Departures" [or whichever applies] and you'll find info about hotels, etc, at each of the departure ports.

  2. Without knowing which cruise line or which port, it is difficult to give you exact hotels, but I can give you a few tips on how I find them. One way is to go to the cruiseline's website. Some of the cruiselines will give you names of hotels near the pier. If the hotel is booked, or if you don't like that hotel, you now have an address to find another hotel which is close. Another way is to google search "hotel cruise pier". You should get at least a couple hotels that will give you the distance to the pier. Once you have the address and distance, you can look around the area for the hotel you want. Some hotels will offer a shuttle to the pier, some are close enough to walk, some may be by the airport, and others you may need a taxi, but this will be something you can decide based on the type of hotel you want. When we go, we try to stay as close to the pier as possible, that way we can get up, have breakfast, and go to the ship. You can usually get on the ships around 12 or 1. In San Juan, we stayed right across the street, and walked. If it is somewhere I have cruised before, you can email me and I would be happy to give you suggestions, otherwise have a great vacation.
