  1. To fully answer your question would take a couple of A4 pages. You will find many people such as yourself. Step 1 how many people are in your group. 2 when you have a reasonable membership, become registered as a group. Step 3 decide what is the most important issue you want to preserve or protect. step 4 when you are registered you can apply for government grants, local council and even banks will fund creditable environment projects. Go for it and good luck.

  2. Good on you! I just helped start an environmental group at my local college. What I've learned from it is to first start drawing up how the logistics of your club will work, how many officers? What will each one do? When & where will you meet? How will you communicate? Make a mission statement. How will you recruit? Who will you recruit? What about dues? Will you plan cool things to make people want to stay in your club and feel there is a benefit? Will you have companies sponsor you? What will you do to raise funds? How will those funds be used?

Get all this done first, so your group has a foundation.

In our club, we have 2 sponsors, a President, Vice Pres, Treasurer, Secretary, and Events Planner/Coordinator for the officers, these we call the "active" members, then we have the "supporting" members, these are members who just pay dues and help if they want to, but its not required. We (the officers) have agreed upon a name and a logo which we will have on all our recruitment flyers as wll as merchandise we will produce from eco-friendly materials(hats, shirts, etc) to sell for more club funds. We use MySpace to create a free website which we can upload pictures of events as well as a recruitemnt guide. Our goals are to implement a campus wide recycling program, education for the community, clean-up efforts, etc. A great resource & potential sponsor for you might be an established local club or organization which already works in your area, like the Sierra Club for instance. Good luck & thanks for doing your part!
