  1. ballet is totally awesome..it helps u gain muscle, control, you become more cordinated, and it is a fun class to take..it is also the core of all types of dance even things like jazz or tap..balance is also one of the things that comes from ballet which helps you in any dance class you'll ever take...if u plan on doing any classes, do ballet bc it will definitely help you...ballet is awesome..have fun with it

  2. That's so exciting!  Congratulations!

I assume that you have already chosen a studio?

Make sure that you try out all of the studios in your area, no matter how they appear to be.  I switched from a very large and reputable studio to a small, newer studio....and I've actually found that the smaller and less known studio is better (in terms of people, teachers, etc.).  So, either do trial classes or watch some classes, talk to them about different levels, their policies, etc.

A key about ballet is that practice makes perfect!  It is extremely demanding of you physically and mentally.  If you struggle with something the first time, keep trying!  Don't give up because in the end, it is very rewarding!

Also, you need to be able to rise above frustration.  Have confidence in yourself, and you will eventually achieve what you want.  If you are serious about ballet, then be prepared to sacrifice spare time, dates, time with friends, etc.  It is ultimately your decision as to how far you want to go with ballet (professional or recreational).  No matter what you choose, I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Remember to always stretch before class (even if you stretch during class, the more stretching, the better!  Just do not push yourself to the point of injury).  Hydrating yourself is very important!  Water, water, water! (but not too much immediately before dancing to avoid side aches, etc.)

Also, respect your teacher and those in your class.  The teacher truly does care about your well being and your success, but you need to show him/her that you care about ballet.  As for others in your class, don't be discouraged if others are better than you.  Let it be motivation to improve.

    Best of luck!

  3. ballet is so much fun but it can be a lot of work. You really should take it at least twice a week but it all depends on whether or not it is just a hobby.  Your feet get very tired but you will eventually get used to it so stick with it. You should also try taking classes with different teachers. All teachers have a different way of teaching and a different style, although all are correct.

The main things to remember in ballet are be confident, light on your feet, keep your head up, and pointe your feet!!!

  4. Here's some advice:

it doesn't really matter if you're super flexible as long as you really love dance and try your best all the time. i'm starting pointe this year, so i have that excited first time feeling all over again too. just mostly make sure you know what kind of leotard to wear and what to expect. I would use a hair net for the first few weeks until you really get the hang of putting your hair in a bun because you really don't want to be embarrased by your bun falling apart in the middle of class. Always be respectful to your teacher(s), and be sure to pay attention all the time, even when your fellow classmates don't. Be sure to stretch well and always do your best! I hope this helps!

  5. my older sister started ballet when she was 16 and is now 20 and has graduated from college with a degree in dance.  She is amazing at ballet.  I started ballet this past year at age 13 with my sis to help me out.  I really enjoyed it and I bet you will too.

  6. I take ballet! I think you are going to love it!

    Tips:

    1. Make sure you stretch really well because it is VERY easy to pull a muscle (especially in ballet leaps)

    2. Make sure you get the five positions in ballet down well. They turn up everywhere and in a lot of steps.

    3. It is always more fun when you do it with friends. Sometimes you can get quite nervous but it is much easier when you have close friends right there with you!

Ballet can be pretty tough but it is so much fun! When you dance ballet you should be as graceful as you can but really express the steps. After you learn a lot of ballet for about 2 years or so you can try Pointe which is very similar but a little but harder.

    Hope this helps!

  7. I have been taking ballet for 11 years! I absolutely love it!!! No, it's not easy, but if you have a passion for it, its fun! As far as a dancers life, I have dance after school monday-thursday and on saturday. once i have rehersals for nutcracker, I go for like 4 hours monday-saturday. so you obviously have to be totally committed. good luck and I hope you love it as much as I do!

    Hope this helps!!
