There are two in particular that seem to sound the same to me but I don't know...ita takee mas....

One is said right before eating and the other is said right before leaving.

What are these phrases?

Also, how do you say "how do you say __________in Japanese?"

Finally, how do you say "how are you?"

Thanks for reading : )

  1. Well, the one you are thinking of which you say before meals is "Itadakimasu"

i do not know the one you say before leaving, but

"____ wa nihongo de nanto iimasu ka?"   is "How do you say ____ in Japanese?"

"Ogenki desu ka?" (formal) or "Genki?" (informal) would be "How are you?" or literally "Are you lively?"  an appropriate responce would be "Hai genki desu" which is "Yes, I am livley" if the anawer is no, then you could say something like "iie" which just means "no"

    hope that helped :)

  2. いただきます(itadakimasu, it literally means to receive) is said before eating

いってきます (ittekimasu, literally I will go and come back) is said right before leaving.

________は日本語で何と言いますか。(_______wa nihongo de nan to iimasuka)=How do you say _______ in Japanese.

whoops, I forgot how to say 'how are you', but the other poster's got that covered. In kanji/kana it's お元気ですか (ogenki desu ka, where you can drop the o to make it more informal)

  3. Right before you eat, you say "Itadakimasu"

Right before you leave, you say "Ittekimasu"  (helps if you break it up into Itte and kimasu)

"How do you say __ in Japanese?" = "___ ha nan to imasu ka?"

"How are you?" = "Ogenki desu ka?" (if you havent seen them in awhile or have reason to believe they aren't well, otherwise, just use konnichiwa)

Edit: Darn I was second again :I
