  1. as a boy i went to camp in Port St Joe Fla and we simply snorkeled in the sea grass (5-10 ft of water) and found tons. We just swam around and picked them off the bottom. Would think that a salt water bay with good ground cover would be ideal. don't believe you would need a license as an individual...

  2. Not sure about the scallops. Back in the day you didn't.

Scallops are free swimming so just look for them on the sandy bottom.

  3. We just went snorkeling for scallops this weekend.  We went to a place called Horseshoe beach its off Alt hwy 27 towards Perry Fl on the Gulf coast.  You find the scallops in waist high water.  They are in thin grassy areas and are positioned throughout you just snorkel until you swim over one. You can either use a small scoop net or pick them up with your hands.  I prefer to pick them up because if you miss them with the net, they are gone.  They swim away.  We hauled back six gallons.  One more thing, everyone on the boat needs a saltwater fishing liscense. Good Luck !!!!!!!!!!!!
