would like to add that this is electronic ignition. there appears to be no change in timing when wire is in or out. when timing is put where it is supposed to be the truck runs powerless. when we set the timing way advanced the truck runs like it should. i think the advance portion of the computer is not working. is there any visible way to see the timing advance? if the wire was left out add timing light on could we see the timing change when engine accelerated?

  1. I think that you should ring up everybody's mate, the mechanic and ask him this, or ask a Toyota dealership in the Customer Service/Enquiries section.

  2. This keeps the computer or ECM from trying to adjust the timing automatically while you check or adjust the timing.

  3. Jeff,a common problem with these guys is that the vacuum advance diaphrams fail at the distributor and the truck over heats and runs lousey because they end up being to far advanced.Just thought I would throw that in.
