  1. I searched this in the US.  I have no idea whether it will help you, but if you do a similar search from the UK, you should turn up any similar agencies.  I don't know whether any of these agencies work in the UK, but if they do, THEY will help you with lodging, and they have to get you a visa before they can get you a job; their reputations are staked on it.  If you can get a job through them, it will be because they got the rest taken care of.  Generally, they do something like give you a list of approved places, and then you make your own arrangements.

Good luck.  With the employment situation, you may have to be patient, even through an agency.

  2. There are plenty of jobs in Madrid for english teachers.  You don't need to speak Spanish.  Rent there is expensive though.

Don't listen to all these people who tell you how difficult it is, of course there will be challenges but you expect that anyway.  If you want to do it, go for it.  You won't ever regret coming here and giving it a go, but you will regret it in the future if you didn't have the bollocks.  You're only a few hours away from home by plane so you have nothing to lose.  If you get really stuck, just go home.  I would suggest having some money saved before you come as you will need to pay rent and deposit upfront.

or you could do what practically every brit does for their gap year and go to australia.

  3. The answer above is about right. Spain is a great place to live and work, but you are just filling a gap year. You will have no finances to the level you will need coming here. The only work you have a possibility of getting is bar work, but to get that you should be 18. Bar work is long hours of hard work. Whilst everyone is enjoying life you will be struggling to earn a living.

Why do you want to get out of England asap! You have to go back there for Uni. What you've said makes no sense and is not the right way of looking at things.

I went to college when I was younger. I worked for 18 months in the profession I was studying to gain experience. Why don't you do that, then go to Uni, get a degree and then look for work abroad.

  4. Sorry but its no better here at the moment. jobs are hard to find. especially if you dont speak the language. But if you are happy to work in a bar (thats just mainly seasonal) and poorly paid. And its difficult to get a work contract. Also as others have said ,, it is not as easy here any more and seems to be getting more expensive by the day. So I would think very carefully before making any drastic moves.

  5. There's no rosy way to paint it. It'll be difficult.

While it depends on your desired lifestyle, each of you should take between 13,000-18,000 Euros, share a room and expenses together - or with more people if possible.

There's not too much chance for jobs unless you speak Spanish. Do you? If you do speak Spanish and if you do find work it'll be hard work for very very little pay, poor treatment by bosses, almost no tips (if in bar/restaurant). There are lots of menial jobs occupied by underpaid and overworked Latinos and Africans, all willing to work harder, longer hours and take less pay than you would - because they REALLY need the job. Plus Latinos already speak Spanish and are more used to hard, hands-on work.

For rooms for rent and an idea of their costs, look over http://www.Idealista.com - website only in Spanish.

Why not consider going for only 6 months and enjoy yourselves while traveling around the country. You'll have a great time but it'll cost you. We all wish you the best of luck!
