I've never tried Indian food before and would really love to try it. My husbands a little aprhesive and normally is a steak and potatoes kind of guy. We live in Renton, WA (outside Seattle). If any one knows of something we should try and a place here in our area, please let me know! We are not vegetarians so something with meat is good!

  1. Indian food is awsome, alot of different tastes and flavors blend togethor and its great.

  2. Don't know anyplace where you live, being that I live in Dallas-- but do give it a try; if you like spicy and exotic flavors, you'll love Indian food.  Meat-wise, definitely have a tandoori chicken or lamb.  A tandoor is a clay vessel that Indians cook marinated meats in.. resulting in very moist, aromatic, and delicious food.  There are also a variety of sauces you can try with them, as well as several kinds of curries that incorporate the chicken, lamb or shrimp.  Beware! Some of them are mind-blistering hot-- so go easy at first.  When you order they will ask how hot you like it-- I have generally found that "hot" in Indian food is more fiery than "hot" in Mexican or Chinese.  I tried to impress a date once in San Francisco by having a lamb vindaloo (spicy brown sauce) and ordered it "phaal" or

extra, extra hot.  Each painful bite emitted sweat through every pore on my head and face; needless to say, she was less than impressed!  If you do find something too spicy, make sure you order a mango lassi-- it's a drink made from fresh mangos and yogurt that is not only tasty, but kills the heat from the peppers in the food.  There are also less spicy sauces, like Masala (creamy tomato herb sauce) and Korma (almond and cream sauce with fruits), as well as a great appetizers like Aloo tikki (potato and lentil patties), Onion bhajia (onion fritters) and Lamb samosa (ground lamb in a fried pastry).  Last, Indian breads are fantastic-- try some garlic Naan, onion Kulcha and Papadam (a flat, crispy lentil cracker bread).  Enjoy the experience!
