  1. it will be ok. If you go to pet stores male and females are separated but males are all kept together.

  2. It all depends on the individual hamster.  I used to work at a pet shop where we kept all the males and females (usually 5-10) together.  Most of the time they would all get along and play, eat, and sleep together, but on occasion out of the blue we would hear them start fighting and have to separate them.  Most of the time it was males picking on females, but there were times when it was males going at it.

If you make sure to introduce them both to the habitat at the same time with plenty of food, hiding spots,  toys, and no established territories there is a good chance they will get along just fine.  If you clean out the cage really well and put all new bedding in it there shouldn't be any territorial issues.  You will need to watch them for the first day or two though because any little thing may spark a conflict.

    Good luck

  3. in petshops sometimes they nickname the hamsters so you're teddybear might be a syrain

  4. No,

If it is the same gender they WILL fight.

If you get a female/opposite gender, it might work, but be careful, chances are it will have hamster kids roaming around. If it does, never ever do you touch the babies or mother. Also, take away the father, as he will eat the babies...I think only if it's touched by human though.

    Hope I helped ! Good Luck !

  5. Theres about a 60-70% chance they will fight once or twice a day.since they havent been together since they were "babies" they might fight once a day or maybe not becuase hamsters ARE territorial so in that case they want the place to themselves basically so they might fight i think dwarfs fight more then syrians in my experience! but it kinda depends on how big the cage is to if your gonna get two and want them to have a little better chance not to fight get a prett big cage.so they will have space to run away or hide! or maybe just have two cages would be better! .If u dont want them to fight at all get 2 seperate cages.becuase sometimes they will fight till death.so i would risk it! but some hamsters very rarely get along pretty well. I personally would get 2 seperate cages.btw i have about 8 months experiance on NON-STOP hamster research.but its totally up to u! hope i helped :)

  6. They will be ok. It depends if its a dwarf hamster or not.

  7. No. No matter how sweet or cute they are on there own, more than 1 hamster (male in particular) will always fight, and the odds are they will not stop until one dies =( so i wouldn't risk it if i were you. Hamsters are much much happier being on there own anyway!

  8. You need to specify if you have a Syrian or a dwarf hamster.

If it's a Syrian then definitely not.  They are solitary by nature and will fight each other.

A dwarf hamster can live with another hamster of the same s*x but it's usually best to get them at the same time.  They already have an established relationship and the whole dominance thing is out of the way.  If you introduce a new dwarf to the hamster you have there is a good chance they will start fighting each other. It's a territorial thing and a show of dominance to the other hamster.

I don' recommend it to be honest.  I tried it a few times and most of the time one of my hamsters attacked the other.

**No, hon, you should not get another hamster.

**In regards to getting a male/female pair they will get along better but I don't advise it.  Inexperienced breeders/hamster owners may end up with more babies than they can handle.

If you really want a hamster pair your best bet is to buy dwarf hamsters young and from the same cage.  Chances are they would get along but in case they don't you should always have a spare cage handy.  Sometimes with dwarf hamsters they will get along for a while but sometimes fighting can break out.  I've seen that several times with my hamster familes.

Any questions please feel free to email me!

  9. I've heard that Teddy Bear hamsters actually like company...other hamsters do not. Try it out...make sure you take the intros slow to make sure they get along. Do you have another cage in order to house the new one for a while before intros? Good idea to let him settle in for a few days...then do intros. Also, you need to be prepared in case they don't like eachother.

  10. Your hamster is a Syrian. All normal sized pet hamsters are Syrians. The "teddy bear" is just one particular coat type.

Syrians are a solitary species. They do not need, want or even like the company of other hamsters and are extremely territorial. Two adult hamsters housed together WILL fight. They can cause eachother serious injury and one will almost certainly end up dead. Gender makes no difference. Males will fight males. Females will fight males. Males will fight females (unless she is in heat in which case they wil breed and you don't want that either!)

You may see hamsters in pet stores housed in groups.

    Why?

    Because they are babies!

Hamsters will live quite happily with their parents and littermates at first. However, as they mature the fighting will start. Trying to introduce 2 unknown hamsters is even worse - they will almost certainly attack on site. There is also the risk that you could end up badly bitten when you try to separate them.

Really, Syrians MUST live alone. If you want another by all means get one - but it needs to have its own cage, and the two should never be allowed to be together.

  11. If you have a Syrian hamster, often called the "Teddy Bear Hamster", the answer is "no". Syrian hamsters are solitary, if you try to keep two together one will eventually kill the other. If, on the other hand, you have Campbells dwarf Russian, or Winter White Siberian hamsters the answer is "usually". If you buy a pair of young hamster siblings from the pet store then they will most likely be fine. If your dwarf hamster has been on it's own for a while then it is much less likely to accept new company.

  12. Yes, they would. Because, in the wild, males would fight for breeding privileges with the female hamsters. If you put them in the same cage, the next day, you'll probably end up with one or two dead hamsters. Even if one of them is really nice, they will fight. Hope I've helped!
