Question:

Would my 2009 Fusion SE be considered totaled?

Just bought a 2009 fusion SE x plan price (around 19000 before tax) without gap insurance. only got Full coverage with $500 deductable and liability with AAA.

a crazy driver crashed into my car head on in a parking lot. It didnt look extremely bad but got it towed to the a AAA direct-repair body shop. The repair estimate was around 8500 bucks.

now given that I didnt get gap insurance, I am now freaking out about AAA just declaring my car totaled then I'll be owing a couple thousand for nothing. Would they consider it totaled for 8500 bucks damage?

  1. generally it has to be 75% or greater cost for the car to be totalled. some other factors such as damage to the roof or roof pillars play a part.

  2. if the air bags were set off than there is a good chance they will total it out, fairly common thing.....if not than no. but they may have a limit on damage costs that if it is exceeded they total the vehicle due to money they would loose on the claim, it would be in your insurance contract.

  3. It'll be fixed for sure. Usually it has to be 75% of the value of the car to even think about it being totaled. $8500 is nowhere near enough damage to be declared a total loss.

  4. I don't know, but I feel so bad for you!!!! Fusions are such nice cars and it sucks that someone crashed into it! I would be pissed!

  5. I always thought that if it costs more to fix it than the car is worth, then it's totalled. I am sure the car is worth more than $8500, so I would fight with them on it.

  6. usually if the repairs are within 80 to 85% of the value of the car it will be a total loss.
