  1. 3 out of 10 answerers got it right. This subject comes up a lot, and causes more confusion than anything save "Family" coats of arms.

There are two numbers in cousins; degree and removeds.

Degree is first, second, third and so on. It gets bigger every generation.

Children of siblings are first cousins.

Children of first cousins are second cousins.

Children of second Cs are third Cs, and so on.

You have about a gazillion 12th cousins, by the way. You don't know them all.

When most people say "my cousin", they usually mean their first cousins. You usually know most of them.

Removed is when you go up or down a generation. When you do, the degree stays the same and the removeds go up.

Your parents' first cousins are your first cousins, once removed.

Your grand parents' first cousins are your first cousins, twice removed.

Your great grand parents' first cousins are your first cousins, three times removed.

And so forth. It works for all degrees. If your grandfather was 4th cousin to Elvis Presley, you'd be 4C2R (4th C twice removed.) to the King.

It goes the other way too, although most peope who ask questions here don't have great grand children. If your first cousin did have Gr Grandchldren, they would be your 1C3R.

So - your first cousins' children are your 1C1R, as three people said.

I know someone who is President John Adam's firs cousin seven times removed. Unless the person is famous, or the genealogy bugs bites you, most people don't know any cousins further out than third, or more than twice removed.

  2. Yes.  See: http://www.rushings.info/images/kinships...

  3. yes they would be!

My cousin has three little girls, and they are my second cousins, so your cousins children would be your second cousins.

    Hope this helped!

Cousins children are second cousins to your children.  To you, your cousins children are first cousins once removed (as in removed by one generation)

  8. your first cousin's children are your second cousins

  9. Ooops, they are first cousins once removed ...

I goofed the first time I answered ...didn't pay attention to the question closely.... I should have checked my handy chart closer....
