Would opening a preschool in a small town make a average amount of income?

I'm a teacher now and my job may be eliminated due to class sizes. I'm weighing my options and with my early childhood degree I would be qualified to open up my own preschool. I would have to rent a space and buy all of the supplies myself. Could I make 35,000 + doing this?

  1. depends on the need. In some small towns there are already a lot of preschools. Look up in the phone book, if there are already a lot of preschools, you might want to venture elsewhere. If you are a small town though that has a richer demographic with small children, you could try to market yourself as an upscale preschool. You could charge more for tuition that way.

  2. no no no no np unless you live in a rich twon where people are willing t pay for quality preschool.  OOver head costs are big

    rent supplies

    table

    chairs

help of an aid if over number of kids you are allowed in yiur state

    inshrance is the big one

that is just a few of the costs I tried to do samething and after musch research found out it as n[ot worth it.  simple things like first aid spppies can cost one childs tuition.

and dont forget licensees clearances staff physicals and expection that almost all states requie. You might have to accept welfare payments which doesnt always cover full tuition.  I would highly adise you to

got your states shcholls bu yaws etc and read a lot about it before doing

  3. You have to check out the population of that town and what percentage are babies.  Then do your calculation.

  4. I think you would probably do better with a daycare than  a preschool. A friend of mine just opened her own daycare, it is a LOT of work and very stressful, but it can be done if you have the resources, funding, persistence, and patience. Do your research and write up a business plan to get a better idea of what would work for you. Good luck!

  5. If there are already a lot of existing childcare centers in your area the need for childcare probably isnt too high...

I am going for a degree in ECE  ((I just turned 20 years old)) and my DREAM is to open my own HOME daycare center.

Maybe you can try to open a center from your home first. You would have to get licenced ((as you would for a childcare center out of the home)).

If you have a good turn out with your home daycare, then maybe you can think about moving on to bigger things.

Having a home center first will also help to build your reputation.

  6. Ok first you can't expect to make your money back right away. It takes some money up front-actually quite a bit. It is a lot of stress like meeting state regulations- complying with safety laws- hiring Teachers- buying all your supplies-getting advertisement- bookeeping- and the list goes on. Think about it before you make that huge leap. You really have to be a savy business person to make it work and not just have your Child Development degree. I don't mean to discourage you, but I have been in the daycare, Preschool, School world for many many years and have seen first hand what it takes to open up your own center. I was actually there with one lady to open up her first Preschool. Talk about stress. It can be done, but they had quite a bit of money to throw in to it. The place you rent has to be zoned for a daycare too. It isn't just a matter of renting space. I wish you the best, but please research it thouroughly and consider doing a home daycare first to see how it works out. It is a 24-7 job having your own business until you get off your feet.

  7. If I were in your situation I would do a "home day care." get info. from your local resource & referral agency or Dept. of Human services to get your licensing in order.  You may also qualify to get reimbursment for food from the Adult food care program.  If you take in like 4-6 kids full-time you will make good money! and you wont have to worry about rent just materials.
