John 8 : 28Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

29And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

  1. Jesus HAD to KEEP the Sabbath in order to FULFILL the Sabbath commandment. After having done so even unto death (He rested in the grave on Saturday) He moved the law out of the way for today's Christians.

JESUS HIMSELF IS OUR CHRISTIAN REST!

  2. Tedi Lee - Great, concise answer.

The Father told Jesus to inform everybody that everything was about to change. That is why it says clearly in Colossians 2:16-17...

"So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ."

    Matthew 5:17

Jesus said, “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill."

    Romans 3:20

Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Now, let me ask YOU something. How did Abraham keep the Sabbath? Did he? How was HE justified? Here's a hint... he died BEFORE the Law was given in Sinai.

    Romans 3:28

Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.

He didn't. He fulfilled it in Him. The Law was not just a list of dos and don'ts to keep. It was a standard by which we would know the Messiah when He came. He was to be the Lamb without spot or blemish--ie perfect sacrifice. What? By whose standards? By God's standards, hence the need for the Law. The Law showed that all were imperfect and could not work their way to heaven. Jesus fulfilled it and was the perfect sacrifice.

Seventh Day Adventists are in the habit of always trying to put new wine into old wineskins. Why do you insist on continuing to do this? Where is your assurance, in the keeping of laws or in Christ?

  3. Yes.

    And Jesus did.

Then when Jesus died on the cross He cancelled all of the Laws of Moses, all 613 of them.

That's in Colossians chapter 2 and Ephesians chapter 2.

Must be important for God to put in there twice.  Or perhaps He knew we were all pretty dense and He wanted to make sure we did not miss it.

  4. Jesus is the  lord of the Sabbath it is the kingdom of God, God's rest the day of the Lord. The Millennium.

Please study the meanng of the Sabbath and the sacrifices and the clean and unclean law and know that Jesus fulfilled them all.

Jesus fulfilled all of the law.

    When was your last sacrifice?

    Edit

The Sabbath was fulfilled that day too.
