Would parents buy these old fashion books?

I'm a homeschooling mom and I am teaching my kids from old fashioned books.

I find the books online and since the books were first published before 1923, it is in the public domain in the United States.

Last year I just printed them out as they were found online on websites like PROJECT GUTENBERG. But this year I am kind of cleaning them up and making them look more attactive then printing them out for the kids.

I've been such good comments about them though that I am starting to wondering if other people would like them. I thought about putting them on my website for other parents to enjoy.

I thought maybe of selling them or creating a membership site so other parents could use them too for just read to their kids or teach there kids.

Would parents be interested in these??

I created 2 sample PDF files for you to look at. Please let me know what you think. Follow this link:

  1. If  you are teaching your kids, you had better brush up on your grammar and proofreading.Exerpts from your text;" I've been such good comments...I am starting to wondering..."

You are just kidding about teaching, right?!

  2. You absolutely need to talk to a copyright lawyer about the legality of this. Other than that, I imagine yes, parents would purchase such a thing--Mott did it with the Ray's Arithmetic series, McGuffey Readers and some others. But I would imagine they looked into the legalities before doing it.

  3. I think a lot of parents would buy them, however I don't know the legal implications involved in selling them.

You would need to investigate whether it would be legal for you to profit from these Public Domain books.  I know that some things in Public Domain are later re-bound and re-arranged and then that particular arrangement is able to be copyrighted by the person who created it, even though the individual contents can not be.  For instance, lots of Hymns are in Public Domain, but Hymnals can be copyrighted even if they contain all Public Domain hymns because the collection and order of the hymns is unique to that Hymnal, as well as the cover design, etc.  So be sure to check all of this out.

BTW- I love your Avatar, just add some red earrings! (Ha, ha)

  4. YOu can share your list and the sites where the parents can share and download them, but you may not publish them yourself.  Please read the use rules for copyright on Project Gutenberg.

  5. I'm sure some of them are good.  Usuaully the English grammar is a bit off the beat and track from today's grammar.

  6. I most definitely would.

  7. i think that is a wonderful idea, and i believe that a lot of parents would want to buy them or even download them to read for themselves.
