Would planting a shurb of weigela 4 feet out from my grandaflora interfer with the roots of the tree?

I want to plant a drift of "My Monet" weigela about 4 feet out around my Bracken's brown beauty tree. Would this interfer with the growing of the tree or root competion? Thanks

  1. General rule of thumb is that the roots of an established tree extend as far as the spread of the branches.Based on this,one can deduce if a new planting might succeed.
