Question:

Would protesting gas prices do any good to get them lowered?

Truck drivers yesterday where I live were protesting the high gas prices by intentionally going slow on the highway or pulling over and refusing to make deliveries. How well do you think something like that would work?

  1. If we get the big Trucking companies to go along with the shutdown then there might just be a change made. I support the shutdown but our company isnt supporting or participating in it. If we can get this country to feel the effects of what might eventually happen due to companies and owner operators going out of business due to the high fuel prices, then maybe the government will get into gear and do something about it. There is something majorly wrong when a byproduct of gasoline (diesel) is at a higher cost.

  2. No effect.

  3. it isn't going to do any help towards lowering gas prices

  4. sad thing is eventually we all need gas

While I support their efforts, it seems like nothing lowers gas prices.

I especially hold our govt responsible for allowing the public to be held hostage!!!!!!!

    grrrrrrrrrrrrr

  5. It would have to be done Internationally.

Maybe some day railroads will make a comeback.

  6. Not really. If they push enough and in a smart way, they could get the government to subsidize in a way or another, of course at a cost of the rest of the tax payers.

  7. If trucking stops, the country stops.  They carry enough goods, if they stop they could effect the economy.   There is  a lot of tax on gas, maybe the govt could back off some tax for the truckers.  The oil companies are making a huge profit - if it hurts them enough maybe they will do something.  Those trucks do carry gas and oil.  But if the trucks stop it would definitely hurt us consumers.

  8. I think it would send a message.  But I don't think we can keep up the protest long enough to make a huge difference.  We are too dependent on gas.  The truckers have a great idea.  But, like one said on the news last night, he can't protest too long, because he has a family to feed.

  9. Stop blaming people for our problems!

Look around you, what do you see? Waste.

When you are sitting in the drive thru at the bank, waiting for 15 minutes before your turn, what is your car doing? Idling.

When it is cold in the morning what do you do with your car? Idle it to make it warm.

When you just run in the store for a minute, the car is idle!

If we all made changes in our own personal lives, everyone of us, we would save millions of gallons of gas. It is unnecessary to idle cars and burn gas at 0MPG. It lessens the life of your car, increases emissions, and make a bigger demand for gas.

The bigger the demand, the higher the prices! Buy oil that you can change every 35,000 miles. Changing your oil every 3,000 uses unnecessary oil and also adds to the demand.

Electric at your home uses oil, or coal in many electric power plants for burning or transportation. Unplug all your electronic when you're not using them and you will save a tremendous amount of energy. Yes electronics use power when turned off, some use a lot of wasteful power.

  10. If ALL truck drivers drove slower (and all other drivers), it might have an effect.  But not because it is a protest.  It would increase fuel efficiency and reduce demand.

  11. It may be a good tactic to get yourself on the local news but don't expect it to result in lower prices.

  12. It will do no good.

  13. It will do no good at all.  The gas prices are the way they are because of supply and demand.  The supply is low and the demand is high.  Therefore: high prices.

  14. It's a complete waste of time, even more so now because we live in a global economy and there is demand for oil around the world.

  15. not sure how effective it's going to be. Gas prices are so high because of demand, if we had tons and tons and tons of oil everywhere, gas would be cheaper.... but it's not.

Some people don't realize, it costs gas companies a lot too, they have to spend more money for barrels of oil, then even more to transport the gas to gas stations

When they start making gas with something other than oil.... then maybe the prices will fall......

  16. If it went national...it would scare the c**p out of the government...we depend on truckers for EVERYTHING...and they can no longer afford the gas it takes for them to do their jobs...so they'd be within their rights...

  17. Depends. I'm sure that if every one in the NATION did that, there would be some changes, but if only one state or city was doing this, I'd think the problem would be settled by the state.

However, we are near election time in the U.S., so the gas prices will be going down again soon, hopefully for a long enough term. Depending on who gets elected president, the gas prices may go down again. I'd recommend looking up other protests, and find if there are any other protests that are effective.

  18. No, it wouldn't. They just have to increase their fees.

  19. Lets look at what happens, the news states that a tanker is leaking in the Gulf. A storm is in the Gulf and maybe will be around a drilling site, or crude oil is going to be at an all time high today. Or, as what happened here in the Dayton Ohio area our news station stated that our gas prices were below the national average. OH, YOU GUESSED IT THEY WERE NOT THE FOLLOWING DAY!!! SO,all I can say on the topic of high gas prices. WE DESERVE IT! AFTER ALL LOOK AT WHAT WE DO NOTHING AT ALL EXCEPT COMPLAIN. Who knows maybe the news or media will say something like these high gas prices are distroying the USA. I suppose that would never happen due to the news never speaks the truth do they?

  20. let us hope it worked some was sorta worried over them i have family that drives those truck.

  21. If enough truckers get involved it will help.  Remember, everything you touch was brought to you by a truck.

  22. c

  23. No, it may have an effect on the compensation given to the driver's to cover the cost of gas, but not on the price of gas.  Go protest OPEC.

  24. yeah if enough people protested then yes it would

  25. well, its always good to protest about something that is wrong and unfair. but just bc one truck drive or couple truck driver protest, it wont change the fact for all 300 million americans.  but they would do get some favor by protesting, but not big time.

  26. It doesn't work and it's only for ONE DAY. So they will just keep raising the price to make up for that single day they lost a little money and make it back.

  27. Shoot the government problem solved
