Would putting tin foil on my laptop increase wireless signal?

Or is there anything I can get to get better wireless? I am sharing with neighbors and pay $5 a month, but sometimes the signal sucks.

What is a repeater and how does it work? Will it work with a laptop w/ built in wireless chip?

buy a usb wireless adapter this will act as a wireless antenna which you can extend to get better signal. A repeater could be a router which will act as a repeater of signal coming from the main wireless router.
