  1. Not unless you have a breathing disorder like asthma.  Many of the best of the best have smoked....the real and true answer is no....it will have zero effect, and many non smokers will never achieve what many many smokers have, but they will  sit around flapping their mouths about it and passing judgement while they eat their junk food and drive their cars and use their pollutant homecare products and achieve nothing much to brag about themselves.

I have heard that using Lysol can affect your performance.Just so you know, I don't smoke.

  2. who cares if it affects your riding smoking is grose either way

  3. It could. Smoking makes your lungs work harder. It also makes you sluggish and not to mention smell horrible.

    Don't do it.

  4. frankly I don't think that is a reasonable question. The damage that smoking does to your health should be enough reason not to smoke anyway.

I do agree with the others, smokers smell bad, are short of breath... It might not affect your riding directly but it will shorten the time that you'll be able to ride. My mother has COPD from smoking when she was young and can't be in the dust or exert the effort involved in riding and caring for horses anymore.

  5. Yes!....it effects your lungs which effects your endurance which effects how long you can ride (a) horse(s)

  6. i don't think it would but you should'nt be smoking anyways it is bad for you

  7. It will not affect your ability to ride. You may not have the endurance to run after a loose horse, but you can ride it just fine. The worst problem is that you may be short of breath quicker when working with a difficult horse. Plus, you can't (or shouldn't) smoke in most barns.

  8. like someone else said if you have to chase your horse, you will tire quickly, but i am a smoker and smoke while riding my horse with one hand. The only down fall is my riding buddy's always seem to make my horse take off while having my ciggi.!!!!! Bloody buggers.

  9. Of course, in the  long run you will not have the same stamina or lung capacity.

  10. Hard to imagine. It interferes only with aerobic activity.

  11. I don't think it's a problem. I'm a smoker too. I ride on trails mostly and it doesn't affect me at all.

  12. ummmm...YEAH!

  13. it affects your ability to do anything.

  14. only if you are trying to ride and hold your cigarette at the same time. I used to smoke and it can be distracting to what you should really be doing (paying attention to the one under you) it can also be dangerous to the horse if you drop your ashes on them, or accidentally burn them while trying to juggle reins, mane, and a smoke.

As for your breathing....yes it can make you short winded but that is regardless of riding or not. Those horses were a lot faster getting away from me when I was too out of breath to keep up with them.

I quit 7 years ago and it was the best choice I ever made. You will find out you feel alot better all around once you break the habit.

  15. smoking effects everything. its horrible for you and depending on what horse youre riding and what youre doing it may seriously effect your performance. i run track and cross country. i have the lung capacity most people dream of and when i go through a jumping course with my mare i finish and am out of breath.

  16. well  smoking is very unhealthy but it is not my place to judge you by that but you will probably cough more and be out of breath and out of energy faster

  17. It will not effect your actual riding. Such as your position, moving your horse into the gaits, etc.

But you may be short of breath while working with and around your horse, competing, barn chores, etc.

And if an emergency happens (We're in the equine world, of course something will happen! ;D) or you have to run after your horse then you may run out of breath very quickly.

Smoking also smells horrible and is bad for both YOURS and your HORSE'S lungs.

Think about how sensative a horse's nose is and having the pick-up the smell of smoke off you? It must be terrible for him and it certainly isn't good for either of your health.
