Would someone feel it if they shot themselves in the head? Or is death truly instant?

First off, I am NOT suicidal. I am taking an EMT class and watched a video of a man shoot himself in the head. It was not like people would think. His body tensed up, he wobbled around a bit then feel against the wall. Finally about a minute later he fell out of the chair. I know that certain parts of the brain control the muscular part of your body, and the brain stem basically would be instant death, but watching this freaked me out. To think maybe this man was in pain beyond all fathoming. Granted, I know in this episode people will not be capable of having a concious thought, but I do have to know.

  1. The man's brain was scrambled by the bullet. He was unconcious instantly. How long his heart beat was dependent of what parts of the brain were destroyed by the bullet. The movements you saw were reflexive.

Pain is a function of memory. No memory, no pain.

  2. No one but a person who has been shot in the head can answer that question as sometimes people hypothesize more than their own good and have later found out that they were completely wrong.  The bottom line is that there is a chance that it really does hurt.

  3. In most cases, death is instantaneous and painless. However, sometimes the bullet can deflect off a bone in the skull and not go through the brain. Death will follow, but it takes a lot longer and is EXTREMELY (!!!) painful.

  4. waw good question i really really hope they dont feel anythin its just too sad n too much to think of not just him but also his family so i realy hope they dont feel...i believe they dont anyways...sometimes it happens that they dont die but still i dont think they feel anythin anyways...peace out..
