Would someone from Taiwan be more closely related to the Australian aborigines than a white Australian?

Question

Because of Taiwan's geographical proximity to Australia, and white Australians came from Europe which we all know is on the other side of the world?

and because the Taiwanese came from China? presumably the Aborigines came south through Asia and settled in Australia 40,000 years ago.

After 40 thousand years I don't think you could call either one first cousins! on the other hand, who is to say the original travelers who migrated to Europe and Asia didn't belong to the same family and there for making them equally related?  What you are talking about seems to be related to the human genome projects.  You might want to take a look at some of those web sites.

White Australians are primarily British and Irish, and can therefore be said to belong to the R1B haplogroup.

Native Australians belong primarily to C.

Taiwan is associated mainly with Haplogroup O.

O and R1B are connected if you go back 40,000 years to Haplogroup K (most common haplogroup ancestor for Europeans and most Asians). The connection between C and K is older.

Therefore with respect to the primary haplogroups, I would say the British/Irish are more related to Taiwanese than with the Aborigines. Having said that, a minority of Taiwanese and Aborigines share the same haplogroups - haplogroups not native to Europe. If you look again at the map, you will see colors common between Australia and Western Asia.

As a result, its hard to describe the Taiwanese as being more related to either N.W Europeans or Aborigines.

Now you understand how complicated all of this is, at least. Plus we have only mentioned the male markers...

White Australians come from all over the world. Australia is full of white Australians that have immigrated. So most are not related to the Aborigines at all.
