  1. There was a $348 Million dollar project to build a bridge to some island close to Alaska. The island only had about 50 residents and an airport. It began to draw criticism and became known as the "bridge to nowhere." Palin was a supporter of the bridge until it began to get criticised, and then she was against it.

  2. I don't know all the details yet, but the bottom line is she turned down fed. tax money for the bridge because she believed that it was wasteful spending.

  3. The "Bridge to Nowhere" has become the poster child for wasteful earmark spending.  It is a bridge to an almost unpopulated island off the coast of Alaska.  Vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin stated she is against earmark spending, that she would have told Congress, "No thanks, if Alaska wants to build a bridge, we'll pay for it ourselves."  Yet, Governor Sarah Palin strongly supported the project, talking about the needs to secure federal funding for the project and to not let other people paint the project in a negative light.  She did a complete 180 once she had to pander to the rest of the country instead to just the people of Alaska.

  4. Google it!  It's a structure in Alaska.

  5. The "Bridge to Nowhere" was a proposed bridge that was going to link the city of Ketchikan, Alaska to a small airport on an island off the coast of the city.

The reason that it is controversial is that US Taxpayers were supposed to foot the cost of $400 million to build the bridge even though passengers that needed to use the airport were able to get their easily using a short ferry ride.

The bridge became a symbol of wasteful spending that is used by politicians who want to poor taxpayer money into projects in their local community in order to improve their standing locally without giving thought to whether the money could be spent more beneficially elsewhere

Sarah Palin ran for governor in favor of using taxpayer money for this bridge but later changed her mind and yesterday in her speech stated that she opposed the bridge

  6. They wanted a bridge to Ketchikan from another small island where they have an airport, it would have cost 320 million dollars, and right now there is a ferry going to and from and I believe us small down Alaskan's would prefer to keep our towns small.  If you want to know more look up Bridge to Nowhere Alaska, and you'll find all kinds of info.  I am an Alaskan, and I opposed the bridge, they also wanted to build one from my hometown to anchorage, but fortunately for us it could not be done due to all the much in the bottom of the inlet!!!

I don't know what all these people are talking about her lying, it was never going to happen... i think i would know, you can't always trust what you read on the internet

  7. She was for it before she was against it.  When the media said, it's a bridge to nowhere, then Palin was against it.  But prior to that she had no problem with it, and backed it.

  8. Basically, she was for it before she was against it.

  9. You see, she's an idiot...and we need real change!

  10. She supported building a bridge to an island with 50 citizens with federal dollars to the tune of almost $400 million.

After word got out about this ridiculous government spending she removed her support and was able to stop the bridge from being built.

She seems very proud that she stopped the production of this bridge.  Here's what she doesn't mention every time this comes up.  She kept the $400 million for her state.

  11. Here's the facts on the actual plan itself and her support and then removal of support of it:

While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a "bridge to nowhere."

It's all about earmarks, the idea is that all of the stuff she says about ending the abuses of earmarks is being directly contradicted by her record as a governor and mayor.

She was originally for the bridge then used the funds for something else and was then against it. She flat our lied. She lost my vote already , i don't trust her, plus shes reading whatever Bush's speech writers give her.

  13. It would have connected the town of Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport on it. Ferries and water taxis serve the island now.

The Anchorage Daily News quoted her on Oct. 22, 2006, as saying yes, she would continue state funding for the bridge because she wanted swift action on infrastructure projects. "The window is now while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist," she said.

  14. Do you also want to know about the Obama - Ayers connections?

So why are you only interested in hearing false rumors about one candidate without investigating the truth about something that is very real?

  15. There's more detailed information but my understanding is that,  Sen. Ted Stevens of Alaska agreed with the construction of a bridge between Ketchikan and Gravina Island in the Alaska.  This bridge would have cost multi-millions to connect sparcely populated areas.   At one point Palin was all for this bridge, but later changed her stance.  SInce then a ferry boat now provides transportation between

  16. Are you insinuating that Obama has the market cornered on "refining" one's position?

**cough, cough** Obama supporter **cough, cough**
