Dear Office of Student Financial Aid,

My name is ________ and I am writing to ask you to appeal my suspension of federal aid. I would very much like to thank you for the opportunity to explain why I had trouble last fall and spring semesters, also I would like to state that I take complete responsibility for my grades and absences. One major stressor that played a role has been my involvement with a severe custody battle for my 6 year old daughter over which I have been in court several times. Other monumentally important areas of my life, such as my studies, have been negatively effected because I was so emotionally and financially overwhelmed by this dispute.

I do realize that I neglected my studies and I know that given the chance I would prove myself the devoted student that I know I can and will be. I completed 6 hours this summer. Not only did I enjoy my classes but I did well in them.

I have compiled a list that I believe will prove helpful to my successfull completion of this next semester:

1 Thankfully, as of July 31, 2008 all court disputes have been resolved, therefore I no longer will be emersed in the court system, the attorneys, the fee’s and challenges that go along with it.

2. This semester I intend to enroll part time to ease back into a healthy routine and ensure that I do not take on more than I can handle at this time.

3. The 7 hours this fall in which I am enrolled are online which I believe will help me to manage my time wisely so that I can balance my family and studies.

My goal is to earn a degree in Human and Family Sciences with a minor in Social Work so I can make a difference in the lives of others and be an asset to our community, as well as be a role model for my daughter. I have completed all but 11 hours of my basic classes. I have also completed 18 hours for my minor in Social Work and look forward to completing my major classes for Human and Family Science. I work full time to support my daughter and myself but my checks are very stretched and I still do not fully have the resources to pay for my tuition. I am a hard-working and dedicated person, and I would like so much the chance to prove this through my performance next semester.

Thankyou whole-heartedly for your consideration of my request. Should there be any other questions I can answer or information I can provide I can be reached at ***-***-****,

Thanks again,

_____________

  1. very good, it really is similar to the one that I submitted this Fall (it was approved and my F/A was awarded). It will help to include any documentation (I would go for legal bills for the sympathy factor).

just a caution with the whole "on-line" courses thing... I have been there and done that for much the same reasons you are kids, time (lack there of), transportation ect... On-Line is not easy you have to be very disciplined don't fall into the notion that "I'll do it later" or "I don't need the instructors help I can do it on my own". Your not superwoman!

  2. Sounds good to me. It's better than mine; mine was short but thorough.

Just check into the way you are using the word "effected" I think the correct word should be affected. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Other than that I'm pretty sure your appeal will be approved. Good luck!

  3. One major stress that played a role has been my involvement with a severe custody battle for my 6 year old daughter over which I have been in court several times. (Stressor isn't a word.)
