Would someone with prior service have to start over in the IDF?

If someone served in the American military and joined the IDF would they start over as a private or would their rank carry over?

As a matter of fact, the rank would not carry over.

From what I read, the IDF only rarely accepts inductees who are over 28 or who have served in foreign armies

I don't think it does, but I will ask my superior to make sure.

Edit: he said that it generally does not carry over, but 'special concessions' may be made on a case-by-case basis.
