Since unemployment is defined as anyone age 16 and over who are willing and able to work... would students who work in summer but not during school semesters be counted in the labor force?

  1. Unemployment is an optimistic image report.  Only people applying for and receiving unemployment benefits are included.  The report ignores a substantial number of people not in the workforce.

People who are not receiving unemployment benefits are not reported.  The method of reporting of people out of work eliminates those whose benefits have been exhausted and those who are chronically unemployed.

Summer employment does not qualify workers for benefits.

  2. no they are not included when finding out unemployment rate coz they dont look for jobs as they study.

  3. No. They are students.  That is their job.  They are not considered currently looking for work.

  4. no,. as long as they continue their studies they are not included in labour force. those who don't continue studies are.
