Would sugar cane reeds (the leaves) placed down to form a path constitute an obstruction under Rules 23 & 24?

Well what if the canebrake were just put down not in a temporary way, but as a general path. I am concerned about the propensity for golfers to drive on popular courses into trampled areas that provide little to no difficulty compared with the roped-off rough adjacent. The message: bad shot, you're screwed. Worse shot, a little bit better! What are other ways golf courses could manage this, to make it harder to play on the areas patrons walk on without eliminating the general area in which they can do that?

  1. If the sugarcane leaves were placed to cross an area which was wet and the condition was temporary in nature there would have to be a committee ruling  established to remedy the situation. as to whether a player gets relief. So the ruling has to come before  any rule can be applied.

  2. Loose shots will happen even to the guys who play on TV on Sunday.  The fact that the crowds may trample the grass a bit is strictly a "rub of the green"  Play it where it lies and go for it......No special action is needed in my opinion....... How many times have you had to hit out of someone else's divot in the middle of the fairway?
