Would talking to psychologist disqualify me for being cop/corrections?

I want to get therapy(no pills) because when I was kid my parents yelled ALL the time and was unhealthy marriage... father was emotional abusing kids... causing my brother serius mental illness...

im not that crazy but i have problems in social situations and anxiety?

will i be able to still join PD/corrections?

  1. No, in most cases it will not disqualify you. My question to you is, if you have problems in social situations, do you think you can handle the stress of going into peoples homes and dealing with the kind of thing that police officer do? How about talking to kids, families, drunks etc?  Just something to think about. Good luck.


  2. No it wont they probably will send you to their psychologist to just examine you and make sure you are okay for the job. But it wont disqualify you right off the bat.

You would not be accepted into any academy dealing with the training of becoming a cop or corrections officer, whilst you are undergoing treatment such as  you have described, even after treatment it may well go against you as you would have to deal with situations that require you to be in control

  4. No it won't disqualify you, as long as you weren't suicidal or anything of the at sort.  When they look into your background they may talk to your psychologist.  Just be honest

  5. It would not disqualify you, it may even make you appear better to an interviewer...if that information ever came up.

  6. Isnt your mental health more important?
