Taxation system is one way to generate capital, every society and every government charges its citizens for the services it provides them with. More the tax generation, more revenue the government will have. In western societies, general public pays alot of taxes to the government, that is why, their standard of living is so high, as the government has enough resources to spend on the welfare of its people.

Take the example of Norway, which is one of the highly taxed country in the world, but if you look at their social setup you will be amazed. No one owns a private car there, as they have a best and cheap public transport system. Henec, taxes do help a government in improving the lives of its people.
