  1. I would say go to the doc just to make sure its not an ear infection they have teething symptoms some times. Try some infant tylanol though for just fever reducer

  2. nah, sounds more like a virus. alternate between motrin and tylenol to keep his fever down. my son use to get slight fevers and diarrhea.

  3. No it does not sound like teething. It could be a secondary infection such as sore throat or an ear infection.

  4. I think 102.5 seems a bit high for a teething fever. I think you're right to give the doctor a call or go in. I think it sounds more like an ear infection or virus. When Ian runs a fever we always alternate between motrin and tylenol and it goes down. Best of luck. Poor Johnny!!!

  5. My son who is 5 months had a fever of 102 this past weekend.  He is teething, but the dr said that's too high for teething.  Come to find out he had ear infections in both ears.  Poor baby.  He's doing a lot better now!  Good luck to your baby, hope he feels better soon!

  6. I agree with the answer that there is not much evidence that "teething fevers" actually exist and is not just a coincidence.

Even so, as long as your child is older than about 3 months or so, I wouldn't rush to the doctor just yet. If there are no other symptoms, the doctor will just say "it is probably a virus" and send you home. If your child appears to be in pain or the fever doesn't come down by tomorrow, then go to the doctor.

  7. I really doubt it! Maybe a fever of 100.4 or lower, but not 102.5

I think you were right when you took him in the other day. I hope he feels better!!

  8. I wouldn't think so. At my Pediatricians office in the Phamplet that is provided, it says teething should not cause a fever that high. However, some Drs says it does. But, I would definately take the little guy in for a check just to make sure it isnt viral or anything.

  9. doctors will tell you no, but some parents will tell you yes.

My DD occasionally had a fever while teething, but quite low...100.5 at the highest.

Your son's sounds too high for teething....he probably has a virus or something.

    Poor guy..hope he feels better.

  10. Not normally.  That is not to say it impossible.  A lady I know swears one of her daughter ran a fever of over 104 degrees everytime she cut a tooth.  The doctors eventually even agreed with her that nothing was wrong with her besides teething.  No harm in making an appointment and taking him in to have his ear's and throat checked though.

  11. Actually, teething doesn't cause fevers at all. Did we as adults spike temps when we got our 12 yr molars or our wisdom teeth? At the time that children are getting their teeth, their natural immunities which they got from the mother are weakening (as they should be)

If anything, there might be a little more drooling and the drool may sometimes make it's way into the outer ear canal when the baby is laying down, possibly causing an ear infection.

Teething in itself does not cause temperature elevations. It's simply a matter of timing.

  12. 102.5 seems a little high for teething but I suppose it's not out of question.  50% of doctors will tell you that teething will not cause a fever and 50% will tell you it can.  From my experience it can but only a low grade fever (not 102.5).

I hope he feels better soon.

  13. I don't think it could be a teething fever..They aren't normally over 101..that is a mid-grade fever not a low grade fever

((HUGS)) Let us know what the doc says...

Have you tried tylenol, luke warm bath, and don't overdress him...

  14. It's usually lower than that if it's from teething. Sounds like your little boy is coming down with something. Poor little guy! Some doctors say not to take them in unless they've had a fever for 3 days or more. Or, if the fever goes above 102 and nothing you give him works. BUT, I'm a firm believer in trusting your gut instincts! A few weeks ago, my daughter had a fever that started out at 101 and spiked at 103 by morning. I took her in and she had tonsillitis. Good thing I took her in when I did. Always trust your motherly instincts. Take him if you feel something is not right.

  15. No that doesn't sound like a typical fever of teething. Sounds like your little guy is getting run down with something?

  16. Probably not.

Does he seem unwell in himself? Chances are he just has a virus. If I were you I'd give him some child's painkiller appropriate for his age(whatever it is where you live) and see if that's had an effect in half an hour or so. That's what the doctor's going to say anyway, first off, so you'll save time if when you call you can say whether the medicine brought his temperature down or not.

Some kids, especially little ones, always get high temperatures with every little bug they have. I learned quickly to give my daughter paracetamol when her temperature spiked, and only drag her in to wait in the doctor's office if it didn't have an effect. No point making a miserable toddler who just has a cold sit in a waiting room for ages exposed to much worse bugs if it's not necessary.
