If you have unlimited IN texting on verizon, and text someone that's IN in Japan, would it still be expensive for both of you? Or does it still depend on what plan you have...

  1. You are not charged anything additional to receive SMS messages from someone who is in another country.  These will be subtracted from your regular messaging bucket, or in your case there will be no charge because you have the unlimited plan.

However you will be charged an absurdly high rate if you send SMS messages from your Verizon phone to someone in another country.

Think of it like making a long-distance call. You are charged a lot to place a long-distance call (especially to Japan!), but it costs nothing additional to receive it except that it subtracts minutes from your plan's bucket.
