the european teams of this year's olympic tournament?

unlike in 92, the Europeans didn't had as much success as they had today. with guys like manu ginobili, pau gasol, dirk nowitzki, jose calderon, andres nocioni, tony parker, etc. playing in the NBA, this just tells us how much Europe has developed in the past decade or so. yes, the 92 dream team had MJ, bird, magic, malone and olajuwon, but their opponents back then weren't even playing on the NBA standard play. they had petrovic and sabonis and divac back then, but europeans basketball talent weren't even acknowledge back then unlike today, where european players have been making noises in the NBA.

your thoughts.

  1. yes.. but not win by 40 points

  2. Then they beat their opponents by 40-50 points margins which is absolutely crazy and very impressive.

Maybe now, they will beat them by 20-30. Still I think they will be able to easily overpower their competition. except maybe for spain( but they still kick their *** though ).

  3. 1992 Dream Team faced a better Soviet Union team, The whole of Yugoslavia, The better of Croatia and so on and so forth...

European talent wasn't acknowledged back then because US have supreme dominance over the sport. The 1992 Dream Team opened the eyes of the Europeans of how far their basketball talents are compared to US. The European realizing this, then sent many of it's homegrown talents to be trained or be able to play in US basketball soil.

Yes the European players have improved but then again the immense talent of that Dream Team is something to reckoned with. Judging man for man, the Dream Team is much, and I say much better than this years Redeem Team. How could have Dwight Howard, Bosh and Boozer contend with the like of David Robinson and Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone all three are locked in HOFs? Size is another factor in which Magic Johnson holds against the young PGs of US. 1992 US Dream Team boasts of the best defense the whole basketball world has known owing to the fact that they blow out opponents by a 40+ point margin.

As Tweety (another answerer) pointed out the 1992 Dream Team is a very experienced team, Taking out Christian Laettner, you have a 27 year old Pippen as the youngest member of the squad. These stars are not like the ones presently taking their stars uphill, those were established stars (the 1992 team).

Another thing to note is that if this US team featured Jason Kidd as the lone Olympic medalist then the Dream Team features Jordan and Barkley whom represented the US previously as college stars and won the Gold, making them by all means veterans in the international arena.

The 1992 Dream team have the best assets and could have won this Olympics by storm, and may not even get any trouble disposing any opponents in this Olympics, that is if they were still at the same age when they played.

    Hope this helps.

  4. The saying "The rest of the world has caught up with the U.S." Is bullcrap, The U.S. is still the powerhouse of basketball.

-The Dream Team was the best team EVER put together, PERIOD.

  5. I think the 92 team would still have won gold and done very well. While Europe and South America have improved, some countries back then were still very strong. They may not have had the same number of players in the NBA, but that doesn't mean they weren't talented, just flying under the radar a bit.

Honestly I think the 92 team was the greatest team ever put together, not just in terms of individual players but also guys like Magic, Bird, Stockton etc who were fine team players. That is the thing with most players in the current squad, they are mostly slight variations on the same style of player rather than fitting into particular roles for their team. So I think 92 despite their talent were a more cohesive unit overall and coupling that with the individual talent of each of their players means they would do well in any competition.
