  1. No after the big collapse,Willie just lost the team and couldn't get them back...They prolly still be stuggling today...I don't think Willies a bad manager and i hope he gets another chance to manage someday...You gotta remember he did have the Mets in the NLCS just 2 years ago.

  2. When Willie was fired, a met player said to an ESPN reporter that since his firing, the clubhouse attitude changed for the better. Randolph was more strict than Manuel is and I guess the firing is benefiting right now.Obviously no one had a crystal ball early in the season and everyone thought the Mets would never come back and would collapse.

  3. I really don't think it was a good decision to fire him. He seemed like a good manager for me. I think they would have gotten hotter than they are right now, because without a doubt it was hard for the team to have a manager change.

  4. They would have gotten better eventually, but probably not this good. When Willie was there, the clubhouse was in shambles, but Manuel has given the team a completely new demeanor and it's shown on and off the field.

  5. Impossible to say.  I don't have a crystal ball.  But sometimes a managerial change can jump-start a team that's not reaching its potential, and apparently the ownership felt a change was needed, especially after the Mets' late-season collapse last fall.

His replacement hasn't filled his shoes long enough yet for us to evaluate whether or not the Mets made the best decision.  Anyone can have initial short-term success; it remains to be seen what will happen down the road.

I respected Randolph as a manager, but unfortunately, firings have become fairly commonplace in today's game.  I hope he catches on somewhere else before too long.

  6. wiLLie was a yankee.  The Mets were never going to win the Series with him at the helm.  Now they're finally rid of his no-fun, corporate mentality and they're winning games.  Not a coincidence.

  7. I think that they would of, I mean this team was just too good to be under .500 for so long it would of eventually happened.  Though I guess having that cloud lifted from the clubhouse has made them more loose with Jerry being more media friendly has helped to a certain degree. To be honest I don't think Jerry is that much of an influence on the team.

  8. I totally agree with you.  They shouldnt have fired Willie.   If they fired Joe Girardi and put someone else in there, would that guy get the credit for turning around the Yankees?  It was just a matter of time before both the Mets and Yankees got into a groove.  The Mets would have turned around the same way if Willie was there.

  9. Like some other Met fans i believe that firing Willie was the right move. I dont think he could unify the team which is why they weren't playing well. So to answers your question.... no they wouldn't have

  10. I don't think it was Willy and I don't think its Manuel

I think they needed to get into their groove and I'm ecstatic that they are hot right now. These guys better stay hot I'm a die hard met fan since infancy and I can't take another hard break like last years collapse.

Am I the only one devastated by the loss of Shea,I feel like I grew up there it's a piece of my childhood ???:o(

  11. Yes. Not one thing has changed since Willie was let go. The Mets finally got hot and went on a nice win streak due to stellar pitching. You or I could have managed that.

  12. I agree with the firing, I like Willie, but he's a bad manager. The Yankees must have known this because they kept passing him over for promotion, before he ended up with the mets

  13. I don't think so.  The  whole situation with his employment there, fans demanding to get rid of him, etc.  was a bad situation that could only get worse.  It was a huge distraction and really cast a pall over the whole team.  Now that it's been taken care of and over with, the players could relax without having to deal with the fate of their coach every game.

Not to say that Willie was a bad manager or that Jerry Manuel is better than Willie, but a change needed to be made.  Had WIllie not been fired, fan unrest would have been insane.

  14. If Willie was still here, the Mets would be 8 games back at this point. He couldn't get through to the players. Jerry Manual is more respected by the players.

  15. I think Willie tried his hardest as a manager, but he just wasn't the right one for the job. The Mets did sooooo much better just days after firing Willie. I was very mad when they first fired him, but after a couple of weeks you can see the dramatic change.
