Would the Stellar Performers at Delhi CWG Be Able To Shine At Olympics 2012
The recent commonwealth games extended a massive opportunity to three distinctive groups of athletes from around the globe. There had been favourites comprises of the new champions of the events held at Europe and Africa and who eventually followed the route
to the Delhi commonwealth games. There had been old competitors who had probably their last opportunity to stand at the podiums and lastly there had been those who eventually emerged and filled in the void created by the absence of the renowned and world class
athletes. The present article would ponder upon the performance and future of this last category of athletes, who have formed new favourites for the spectators.
The athletes who took full advantage of the Delhi event and succeeded in using it as a platform to gain international repute and experience, constituted the most exciting group of athletes; which was later on regarded as new talent. The talent and potential
of these athletes have been acknowledged and applauded throughout the world and spectators have developed high hopes from them to outperform in London in two year’s time.
Boaz Lalang from Kenya is just 21-years old, but this was the breakthrough year for the athlete, as he made his start with an indoor silver medal in March and ended second behind his countryman. Similarly, David Rudisha titled the world record breaking races
held at the end of August.
However, while participating into the Delhi commonwealth games, Lalang had to show a different mindset as he was expected to make it to the gold. The athlete performed remarkably well and handled the due pressure in 800m. Like Rudisha, Lalang is a front
runner who imposed himself in semi final and final at Delhi.
As the boy had bagged gold medal for Kenya and depicted impressive performance, he has been considered as the best in world over the two laps. The guy has also been considered as a favourite contender for next year’s world championships in Daegu and after
that for the big event in London.
The next potential star the world is looking onto hails from Jamaica. Though there had been constant negative headlines regarding how the Jamaican athletes were coming to Delhi, but eventually the contingent succeeded in showcasing some impressive performers.
Oshane Bailey the national champion for 100m at home was looking impressive until he suffered the injury in semi final which kept him from participating into the championship race.
Bailey who had recently turned out 21 made it to the 100m finishing line in just 10.12 seconds, almost levelling his personal best which he set earlier last year. The same time was taken by Lerone Clarke, his team mate to bag the gold in the final. Amid
his impressive performance, Bailey has been considered a pre-favourite in 100m for the events which are yet to come.
Taking a look upon the athletes hailing from India, those who won the gold medals do not at all constitute the required tips. Rather it is Tintu Luka, the 21-years old who led the 800m final until last 200m. Luka happens to be India’s front runner and national
record holder for 800m. The girl possesses tremendous confidence and depicts the ability to overdo the rivals but eventually she could not make it in the final. Though in the race she blunted to finish sixth, but of course lessens have been learned and she
would surely bounce back stronger.
Another impressive and prominent performer was the 16-years old pole-vaulter Liz Parnove from Australia. Parnove happened to be the silver medal winner at Youth Olympics in Singapore. Besides possessing tremendous potential and impressive ability to outperform
at track and field, Parnove has the ‘event’ in her blood as she is the daughter of Alex, the former coach for world Olympics currently coaching Steve Hooker, the Double Commonwealth Champion.
Though Parnove could not produce any considerable results at Delhi Commonwealth Games, she is greatly expected to be the future of the event.
