...... just because I dislike some of the Chinese government's policies?

Would it be generally accepted that "China" and "Chinese government" are NOT the same thing? I mean, China as a country existed long before (and will probably exist long after) the current government.

I am a person of Chinese descent living in Australia.

  1. Chinese govt = Part of China no matter what the h**l happens.

  2. To most of Chinese people, love their motherland also means to support the government.

It may be difficult to understand why, but it is true.

It is impossible to make China stronger and stronger if there is no Chinese government. So Chinese people love their government as to love the country.

  3. to a lot of westerners, anti-Chinese government is the same thing as anti-Chinese/anti-China.

I think there are more people judge you by your heart, not your political view.

  4. i'm chinese-korean, but i'm living in singapore. firstly, have you visited china? because if you haven't , then you have to be wary about what you say. the native chinese are people who respect and love their country and their government a lot. generally speaking, 'chinese government' and 'china' as a whole means the same to them.

you're of chinese descent, so please try to understand more about your culture before you ask such a question. you can't blame them if they can't make the distinction. since you're of chinese decent, try to understand the feelings of the native chinese.

  5. actions speak louder than words

whatever you say it's more about what you do

  6. You should probably say you're anti-Chinese Government, or better yet anti-communism, not anti-China.  It's similar to people saying they hate Americans, when in reality, they don't like some of the things (all of the things?) we are doing globally.

  7. Of cos i believe in you.

From my experience, all the chinese that i have met, are not happy with their government (not their country). So, Chinese is not equal China policy.

Communism is proved to be a failure. China is changing. It can not change within a day, just need the time.

In the past, i alwasy believe Taiwan and China is going to have war - just a matter of time. But now, i believe they won't. War will not settle a problem, only seeking harmony and equality will.

  8. It's hard to say.

It is unfortunate that many people (not just Chinese) cannot seem to distinguish between criticism of a government (which is legitimate), criticism of a nation (which is ignorant), and criticism of a people (which is racist).

  9. The average Chinese person would NOT make the distinction, especially not in public.  The Chinese have a great deal of pride in their nation and see the government as inseparable to it.  It would take a LOT of explaining (in Mandarin Chinese, of course. Don't even try in English) to get your point across.  On top of this, there is the aversion to speaking against the government in China.  i.e. Don't go Tienanmen and talk about protesters.

  10. I would like to know why you are against a Government in another country? What do you base your "anti" sentiments on? Do you know what kind of Government China has? Is it a democractic system? Do the people vote? What basis is there for human rights allegations against the CURRENT government? Is your "knowledge and education" based on biased media reports from western countires?

Or from terrorist groups operating inside of China?  From separists (SP?) or special interest groups operating inside of China?  Do you know the reasons why a religious faction would want to maintain control of a country such as Tibet? What are the benefits to a religious faction who controls a country, in terms of wealth, privilege and power?

ARE religion factions who rule a country oppressive rulers? Are you basing your bias on ancient history? Such as the Mao Regime in China?  etc etc

I would not challenge the Chinese on their Govt, they are very proud of their country and for the most part proud of their Govt and all is has accomplished in such a short time, and the freedom they have.

The majority of posters on here are equally ignorant about Canada, though they are more inclined to view it as some kind of unpolluted laid back non-violent primarily rural hockey watching utopia.

  11. If you are an australian, why bother about china.leave them alone.

there are over 193 countries in this world. do you bother about them at all?

do you agree 100% with the australian government policies as you say you dislike Some of the chinese policies?

    Good Luck!

  12. Implicit in your question is an assumption that all or most Chinese people believe that foreigners or non-Chinese people are anti-China.

I would like to suggest, that you have a false premise in that.

Most Chinese people do not assume that foreign people are anti-China.

I have only visited China twice. I was treated well by the Chinese people I met.

I do know, that for some people of Chinese descent, who have not been raised with a Chinese cultural background in their new country, that going to China can be a different experience.

If they look Chinese, but can not speak Chinese, it is one "adventure" after another.

What kind of conversation to you envisage with the "average Chinese person" where that topic would come up?

Would you be "Challenging" every average Chinese person you met on the foreign policy of China?

    If so, stay home...

    Otherwise have a great visit.

olivegal - you are correct, for most people that is too subtle a distinction for them to appreciate.

Also, China bashing seems to be "quiet the rage" these days.

Sometimes I wonder if people are against China because of the success being achieved by China,

Or maybe it is a way for their governments to ensure people do not look too close to home.

Also, some of the critics, should look into their own "back yard's" before they start shooting off at the mouth.

Pretty much every western country was "taken away" from an indigenous people. But no one complains much about that.

China, the government, is making the hard decisions. For example the one child policy. It is the right thing to do. For sure many do not like it. I suspect I wouldn't. But it is all about spaceship earth.
