Would the conflict in a book be person vs. Nature if the conflict was somebody being mentally retarted?

    or depending on the story...

  2. You might call it an "internal conflict" if the character is struggling to deal with stuff going on inside him/herself.  Or I like the other commenter's idea about the societal conflict involved.

  3. I don't think that's really the issue. It's more about people vs. society if the mentally retarded person has trouble getting along in the world.

    That's how I see it because my brother is also mentally retarded.

  4. I am pretty sure "Man Vs. Nature" is indeed a conflict, at least that's what I've heard from my English instructors. I remember discussing it as a theme in Heart of Darkness.

  5. i think that you could definately explain it as being person vs. nature but you could also explain it as person vs. self or person vs. society if the person is being made fun of, or shunned because they re mentally retarted.
