  1. Yes, if Hillary was to become President then she would have to appoint a secretary to handle the duties that a First Lady would normally tend to.  The First Lady is in charge of the social engagements that go on at the White House and I don't think Bill would do very well at throwing a tea party for the queen.

  2. there are no duties that a first lady traditionally performs

  3. It remains to be seen.  If Hillary Clinton is our next president, Bill will be in a unique position.

  4. Oh, let's hope we don't find out next year.

  5. BTW, th is should probably be in the politics section, rather than royalty.

If you want to get really traditional, the role of the First Lady was to act as White House hostess.  The role was considered important enough that those Presidents who were unmarried or widowed would often find a daughter or niece willing to take up the role.  This sort of role, though, has lessened in importance over the past few decades and a First Gentleman (or whatever they end up calling him) wouldn't be expected to take the same sort of role.

The role that would likely remain for a First Gentleman would be one of advocacy - that is, publicly promoting certain causes, where it be drug prevention (Nancy Reagan) or health care (Hillary Clinton) or literacy (Laura Bush).

It would also depend on the husband himself.  If, hypothetically, Hillary Clinton were elected then it would be a unique role, since her husband is an established statesman in his own right.  I would see him being used for such roles as special diplomatic assignments rather than the more low-key advocacy roles usually linked to the position.

  6. bills job will be to do what hillary tells him just like in any marriage. you don't think HE ran the country when he was elected do you??

  7. No i think it would be the same.

  8. lmao..imagine bill going w/the wifes of foriegn leaders..

  9. By protocol, no.

  10. The role has yet to be defined, but Bill Clinton is man who can handle this role with ease and humor.  He has said that the Scots think he should be called "First Laddie"  More than likely he will be referred to as Former President Clinton or perhaps in a jovial way as "First Spouse"

I doubt that he will be doing Rose Garden tours and teas, but I bet he'll have a busy and worthy schedule.

    best of luck to you!

  11. Might be expected to act as a bullet shield if the need arises.

  12. they are representatives of the white house same as other employees.  They have a bully pulpit that is unmatched throught the world.  There is no political repercussion to the opinions of the first person.

Lady Bird Johnson used her position to further the natural preservation of the US

Nancy reagan used her position to further drug education and aids research.

  13. no, no official,  probably take on some project for the good of the country.
