  1. sounds like a lean condition, not enough fuel  the way u described it. Filter wouldnt hurt. Hopefully its inline under car. But if it in the gas tank, like many are. You might be just as well to replace the plump too. They are expensive

  2. have you a carburated engine? your decribing one. fuel injected models dont pump to life. but regaurdless the fuel filter must pass more fuel through the element durring acceleration than it does at idle so if its clogged it cannot do this and you starve for fuel. pumping the gas wont make a filter start working though so i doubt this is the problem.

  3. No, it will not, sounds like your exhaust is stopped up, I also had another one that the timing belt was slipping causing it to do the same thing.

  4. yes the fuel filter WILL cause acceleration problems. If the fuel filter is almost completely clogged no fuel means no run. most common give away for clogged filter is you loose max speed can only go 80, 70, 60 it is an over time thing but noticable.

it could also be clogged catalytic converter, this is the most common exhaust blockage.

  5. yes it will ,and it will also make it stall out a lot and sputter at idle speeds, even throw a check engine light once in a while,a bad filter will cause all kinds of problems on a car and most people don't even think to check the filter first,if yours is running bad id change the filter, its not an expensive part and then if that doesn't help it you can at least rule that part of it out as being the problems, you may need a good tune up on it,that always helps one to run better, good luck.
